While this topic may not be a real art form – false positives are no doubt a huge pain to deal with. That’s why we strive to not have any – but alas sometimes things happen.

Ok – so the Watchman client (pre 3.2) used to give false positives when checking drives I/O (that’s input/output for those who don’t know). But NO MORE! The new Watchman 3.2 client fixes this issue.

Funny story about it – I, being a consultant, installed Watchman on some client machines and my own (use your own products so you know everything about them). I was getting a lot of I/O errors from this one client. Watchman was telling me disk3s0 was bad…yet there weren’t 3 drives in the machine. So I installed 3.2 on all the machines that have Watchman and what happens?? My own computer tells me disk1 is having issues. Ruh-Roh Scoobs.

I immediately backup my entire system, whip out Disk Warrior and check the whole thing over. Turns out the drive was dying. Walked over to my local electronic store (which I will not mention b/c in reality I hate them) – got a new drive, restored from Time Machine and no more problems. I love when a product really does save me from pulling my own hair out.

Everyday we try to make Watchman better, but we need your input – so send us an email or comment in the post, or go to the support site and let us know what you think.

Have a good day.
Justin
